From the Executive Director

The SCI board of directors welcomes new members of the SCI Global Advisory Council. These Advisors are experts in solar cooking advocacy, usage and programmatic outreach. The list of Advisors is organized to match the geographic regions designated by the United Nations.

Global Advisors and members of the Board of Directors have unique roles that support the work of SCI.

SCI board and staff members consult regularly with Global Advisors. Their expertise provides key insights and expertise to amplify solar cooking efforts around the world.

The Board of Directors is legally responsible for the operational outcomes of Solar Cookers International.  As a US-based 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization, SCI follows the requirements and mandates of US and California laws. Directors exercise fiduciary responsibility for the organization. 

The board of directors approves new SCI Global Advisors at regular meetings of the SCI board of directors. Directors are generally approved at the first regular meeting of the calendar year.

Updates from SCI Associates

Madagascar

Welcome to Mr. Christian Frost, Ms. Monika Reisinger, and Ms. Rita Bachmann, of Association pour le Développement de l’Energie Solaire Suisse – Madagascar (ADES)​, SCI’s newest Bronze level Associates.  They have established a Gold Standard carbon credit project in Madagscar with solar cookers and other clean cooking devices.  

USA

Puerto Rico. MSA Renewtech Foundation (India) and the United Clergy Task Force (UCTF) (US) responded to requests from faith-based communities in rural Puerto Rico for community-sized solar cookers. With private funding, coordination by UCTF, training by Mr. Pranav Gadhia of MSA Renewtech, and bilingual technical instructions, curriculum, and survey tools from SCI, ten congregations of more than 100 people each are being trained in the assembly and use of the PRINCE-40 parabolic dish solar cooker.

Puerto Rico. In late April, Ms. Anne Patterson, SCI Global Advisor, will deploy 25+ Solavore solar ovens to from Punta Santiago the Toro Negro rain forest and Morovis.  Most of these places are still largely without power and families spend disproportionately on fuel for generators. Monitoring and evaluation are incorporated into this project to track results. The evaluation tools used in these projects can be downloaded from www.solarcookers.org. Also available in Spanish from SCI.

Georgia. National Science Teachers Association conference. SCI Associate Mary Buchenic, with Susan Schleith, and Penny Hall of the Florida Solar Energy Center, will present "Solar Cookers: Educational Tools for 3-D Learning”.

United Nations
